I thought I'd make a post to give a little photographic tour of the gardens here at our home - just to give a little idea of what I'm taking about when I mention the 'back border' or the 'side border' and so on.
The last couple of photos are of a little project my husband, Dave, has on the go right now. I'll post more on it later, but we are turning the area that had an above-ground pool on it into something else. Kind of 're-purposing' the area after we took out the pool last spring. Dave put nice brick around it (or what we call 'Man Size Lego). We filled in with gravel, leveled it off, and tamped it down. Next we are going to put limestone on it, similar to what's in the limestone walkway, and have a firepit in the middle of it! Dave is also going to put in an arbour with a little path down to what he calls the 'Serenity Deck' (I love the name) which is a little deck partway down the bank of the creek that runs behind us. It's going to be a lovely place to sit and listen to the birds.
I hope you enjoy the tour!
Have a wonderful day everyone! Enjoy your gardens.

Man-size legos! I like that. I need to do a similar project because we have no hard surface for our outdoor table. Your garden is looking very lush and well cared for.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is beautiful! Could you stand a large pot of something on the top of the well cover if it bothers you to see it? xx
ReplyDeleteAh so very beautiful friend! I love that serenity deck in process and all of your borders are so lush and stunning! And that limestone walk is fantastic...what do you have growing in-between your stones??? I so enjoyed this tour and wish you a wonderful week! Nicole xo
ReplyDeleteI planted Irish moss and creeping thyme between the stones. They grow moderately well and can be walked on without problems. There are also weeds and violet seedlings growing in there! ;)
DeleteYour garden is beautiful, lovely lines to the kerbing and brickwork, love your Hosta bed,can you tell me what is the green planting in front of it please?
ReplyDeleteIt's clover -not planted, but taking over from the grass which suits me just fine. It's short and green! ;)
DeleteOh my! Your gardens are just amazing! What a wonderful tour! I bet you spend a lot of enjoyable time in them. I love the "Serenity Deck!" What a peaceful spot to sit for a spell!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful property you have Diane. I like how you bordered the gardens with the bricks. Do you find they sink down in the ground after a few years and need bringing up to the proper level again? I put that black (ugly) plastic border to keep grass back from the gardens, but it's a bit unsightly. I'd love to put a low dry wall in limestone around each garden, but that gets costly. Your husband has great vision with the firepit and patio, and I love the Serenity Deck :) It reminds me of a little tree house set in the woods. Well covers are a bit bland, I think I'd build a wooden cover for it that can be removed easily when/if you need to access it, but would blend with the garden landscape better. Thanks for showing us around, your gardens are doing great .. this moderate summer keeps the plants from wilting :) Wendy x
ReplyDeleteYes, they have sunk down and are now even with the ground. If they don't sink any further, I'll leave them. If they do, I'll just move them out one brick-width over and fill in the hole with mulch. That will make the garden look bigger. ;)
DeleteYou have done some lovely things with plants and hardscape both to your property. I think your brother has a good idea for painting that cover or you could just arrange some pots on it too.

I think the firepit area and Serenity Deck will by stunning when finished, Diane. I love sitting near running water -- can you hear the creek? I greatly enjoyed the tour of your lovely property. P. x
ReplyDeleteI didn't realise your garden was so big - plenty of space to fill with flowers. It is all looking so neat and tidy too - perhaps when you have a minute you could pop over to the UK and give me a helping hand. lol
ReplyDeleteHi: I am your newest follower. A lover of gardens as well. Your is amazing. Blessings, Martha
ReplyDeleteYou have beautiful yard and gardens, and I'm loving the serenity deck. We too used to have an above ground pool. Enjoyed it for a number of years but eventually were ready for it to be removed. I don't miss it much, except for these really hot days when it'd be nice to have a place to splash around and cool off!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous garden, But, how come your hostas don't get slug munched ?
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! I think i am just very lucky, because only one or two of my hostas get holes. I have cedar mulch around everything but don't know if that has anything to do with it. I know the softer the leaves of the hostas the more damage they can get. I don't so anything special.
